What Sal Khan Uses to make Videos

This is just amazing. A post that was updated one year ago (from July 2021) lists the tech that Sal Khan uses to make his videos. If you don’t who Sal Kahn is, he’s the founder of the fabulous Khan Academy – https://www.khanacademy.org/. Look him up – it’s a great story!

He uses a PC with:

  • Camtasia Recorder ($200, but you can also use the basic version called SnagIt
  • SmoothDraw3 (free)
  • Wacom Bamboo Table ($80)

Prior to that he used ScreenVideoRecorder ($20) and Microsoft Paint (free).

Mac users: he suggests Autodesk Sketchbook Express works (free with a Wacom) software.

That’s it! Isn’t that amazing!

I personally use Screencast-o-Matic for recording and editing (the paid version is very reasonable) and sometimes Screencastify which is so fast (also very reasonable). Both are free with limitations. You could also use a stylus with a smartphone and other software. There’s no need to invest in expensive equipment. A next step above might be a document camera and they are also surprisingly affordable.
